Lessons are mostly individual, although there are small group lessons available in speech and drama. Further information can be found by going to the New families ITM information.
If your daughter wishes to take music, or Speech and Drama lessons in 2025 you can register for lessons here. Tutors will be in touch with students/parents at the end of January/early February to arrange lessons times. Most lessons will start from Monday, 3 February.

Sport
As always, the sporting year at Rangi Ruru kicks off in busy fashion with sign-ups for summer sport, winter and summer sport trials, school swimming and athletics sports all happening within the first month.
Information on the opportunities to connect with sport and physical activity will be sent out prior to the school year starting. There will be lots to keep our ākonga active and engaged!
School Athletics – Tuesday, 25 February, 9am-2:45pm, Ngā Puna Wai
Our annual school athletics are held at Nga Puna Wai Sports Hub. Students will be asked to sign up for a minimum of three and maximum of five events via an online link which will be distributed at the start of Term 1. (Note the 800m and 3000m will be run on a different morning to the whole school event so do not count in the min/max number). For reasons of safety, ONLY those students who compete in club athletics will be able to enter the hurdles and/or javelin events. In addition to the traditional field and track events, students also take part in Clan activities on the day.
School Athletics is as much about celebrating athleticism as it is about celebrating clan and community spirit. It is colourful, loud and a day full of activity for all. Further information on School Athletics, including the programme will be made available in Term 1. Whānau are welcome to attend.
School Swimming Sports – Tuesday 18 March, 1pm – 3.20pm, School Pool
Held in the school pool, this is a competitor only event, with prelims determining who will swim in the finals on the day. Prelims will be held in the school pool on the following times/days:
Years 7 & 8: During sport period, Tuesday, 11 Feb
Year 9: Wednesday, 5 Feb – Periods 3 & 4
Year 10: Tuesday, 4 Feb – Period 6
Years 11 – 13: Tuesday 4 and 11 Feb -7.30am-8.30am, 3.30pm-4.30pm
If for any reason, swimmers cannot make the scheduled prelim for their year level, they can attend on another day that prelims are being held.
Prelims are compulsory for Years 7 to 10 but optional for Seniors…. however, every prelim that is swum earns a clan point so we encourage all ākonga to get in behind their Clan and into the pool!
While school togs are not required, swimmers do need to wear a one-piece, swimming tee-shirt & shorts or similar. Clan caps are also required and will be available to purchase at prelims.
A programme of events for the finals will be posted once prelims have been completed. Whānau are welcome to attend but numbers may be limited due to capacity within the pool complex. The event may be live streamed should resources allow.
Uniform Items
In addition to the playing strip or uniform required for different sports, students who represent Rangi Ruru at South Island or national tournaments/events and annual sports exchanges will require a school tracksuit (pants & jacket) and squad top. These items can be purchased from the Uniform Shop. Please note the tracksuit is available for purchase by all students regardless of whether they are in a travelling sports team or not.
The squad top is used as a travelling and warm up top across sporting codes for teams involved in tournaments/events. Students are able to have the name of the code(s) they are representing Rangi Ruru in printed on the back – this will be organised once a term.
